Jimmy's Lunch
Jimmy's Lunch is a diner that was established in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada in 1948. In those days the surrounding area was busy with the constant thud of industry. Smokestacks inked the clouds black and the iron octopus brought freight trains full or raw prosperity and fuel for the future. The factory workers who were the lifeblood of that industry made up the majority of the regular customers at Jimmy's.
As domestic manufacturing slowed down and many of the blue collar workers in the area were laid off, Jimmy's became increasingly more vacant. Today, Jimmy's is still frequented by a handful of those old and loyal customers, but as the years drag on, more and more of the barstools remain empty.
Jerry George has owned and operated Jimmy's Lunch since he took the business over from his dying father in the mid-fifties. At 86, he has lived to see many of his friends, customers and even his own beloved wife pass on. Jerry now moves a little slower than he used to, but he still gets up early every morning to make a "good plate of food at a good price" for anyone who still manages to make it to Jimmy's Lunch.
